Medicare in Broward County

We’re an independent Medicare agency based in Lauderdale Lakes, and we help people across Broward County compare Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and Part D plans by phone, by video, or at home. What that means for you

With this many Advantage plans on offer, the choice comes down to details: which network your doctors are in, which hospital you’d use, what your prescriptions cost in each plan, and how high the out-of-pocket maximum goes. Two plans with a $0 premium can differ by thousands of dollars in a year with a hospital stay.

Broward’s popularity for Advantage doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone. If you travel, want any-doctor freedom, or have specialists outside the big networks, a Medicare Supplement may fit better, and it’s easiest to buy in your first six months on Part B.

We compare both, side by side, for your situation, from more than 20 insurance companies.

Medicare Advantage in Broward

Broward has one of the widest selections of Advantage plans in Florida: HMOs, PPOs, HMO-POS plans, and Special Needs Plans for people with both Medicare and Medicaid (D-SNPs) or chronic conditions such as diabetes and heart failure (C-SNPs). Plans come from companies such as Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Devoted Health, Florida Blue, Wellcare, Simply, Freedom Health and HealthSpring.

Many Broward plans have $0 premiums and include dental, vision, hearing and allowance cards. The trade-offs are networks, prior authorization and copays up to the plan’s yearly maximum. How Medicare Advantage works.

Medicare Supplement in Broward

About 135,000 people eligible for Medicare in Broward aren’t in an Advantage plan; many of them use Original Medicare with a Supplement. Published 2026 estimates for a 65-year-old woman who doesn’t use tobacco put Broward Plan G at about $195–$255 a month and Plan N at $160–$220, well below Miami-Dade.

In Florida, Supplements must be priced on your age when you buy, so buying at 65 locks in a lower starting rate. Medicare Supplement plans and prices.

Part D and pharmacies in Broward

Whether you choose a Supplement with a stand-alone Part D plan or an Advantage plan with drug coverage, your pharmacy matters. Publix, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and neighborhood pharmacies can each be “preferred” in one plan and not another. For 2027, Part D out-of-pocket drug costs are capped at $2,400. How Part D works.

Many Broward residents qualify for help with Medicare costs. If you have both Medicare and Florida Medicaid, you may be able to join a Dual Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) that coordinates both and often costs $0. If you don’t have full Medicaid, a Medicare Savings Program can still pay your Part B premium: in 2026 the monthly income limits for a single person are $1,350 (QMB), $1,616 (SLMB) and $1,816 (QI), with a $9,950 resource limit.

Florida Medicaid and Medicare Savings Programs are applied for through the Florida Department of Children and Families (ACCESS Florida). People who qualify also get Extra Help with prescriptions. We check this with you before recommending any plan. Limits: Medicare.gov.

Common Medicare mistakes we see in Broward

Choosing from a TV ad or a cold call.

South Florida gets more Medicare advertising than almost

anywhere. The plan in the ad may not include your doctors.

Checking the doctor but not the hospital.

Your doctor may admit patients to one hospital

system while your plan only covers another.

Copying a neighbor's plan.

Their drugs, doctors and health aren’t yours.

Missing help you qualify for.

Many people who could get a Medicare Savings Program, Extra

Help or a D-SNP never apply.

Keeping an HMO while spending summers up north.

Most HMOs only cover emergencies

outside the area.
